What a blast we had last night for Janet’s 40th…. Sushi & Cajun Shrimp… Stuffed Leg of Lamb, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Honey Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, & Ribbon wrapped White Asparagus for dinner… But I gotta give it to the famous Hewlett Anderson duo for the entertainment. They were on it last night… There was even a request for the lovely and talented Mrs Bleil to sing a Witney Houston song which she knocked out of the park.. I promised her I would not tell anybody about this so I wont. Great Time, Great Friends…. Makes life worth it.. !
Black History Month Event
Great event last night at the City County Building. Had some fun Soul Foods for the event. Great checking out old pictures of Night Clubs in the Hill District back in the day. Packed house and filled dance floor. Her is a picture of Stanley Turrentine as a kid playin his sax.

Sad News Today
I received a letter that Balestreire Produce is closing its doors on Saturday. They stated that the current economic climate and large food vendors have made it impossible to stay in business. I started using this local Spring Garden based company in 1993. They have always taken care of me and even gave me terms from the very beginning. I wish them the very best in the future and thank them for providing me great service and produce for almost 20 years.
Please support small local businesses as we are the core of this country. I do not slam big business because they do of course employ a lot of Americans and keep us working. Buy American.
Cage Free Brown Eggs VS Traditional Mass Produced Eggs
- – - My 14 year old son Adam took a test yesterday. The Cage Free Eggs had a darker yolk with a fuller white body. The Mass Produced Eggs had a less volume yolk but the white had a bit more flavor….Very little difference in taste overall.. Must be all those chemicals that adds flavor.???

City of Pittsburgh Event
Tuesday was a fun event at the City County building for the swearing in of 4 city councilmen and a new member Corey O’Connor. Corey is the son of the former and late mayor Bob O’Connor. Had a great staff with me for this special event. Sam Raven-Staal, Convict Dan, The lovely and elegant Kim and Barb were all passing Local Sausage Sliders on Biscuits, Gorgonzola and Sage Quiche Bites, and Lemon Pepper Turkey & Cheddar Kabobs. Great Job team…

Over the Holiday Weekend
Hope all had a great Holiday weekend. 2 new cooking tricks I went with this weekend…
1. Baked Ham – just grabbed the bottle of Coke and put about 3 cups in a roaster…. added some brown sugar….. Nice sweet flavor.
2. When using the microwave I like to only use the Popcorn setting and then check every 30 to 45 seconds.
3. I love Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music…..There is something about her sweetness that works for me.

So, yesterday we fed 270 plus men that included Todd Graham and Larry Foote… Lamar Woodley was supposed to be the speaker but he could not make it.. A last minute call to Larry Foote and he showed up…. Kudos to Larry….. Today I fed Mayor Luke and friends at Riverview Park…. Southwestern Holiday menu… They loved my mango Chimichangas… I had to explain to them over and over what they were, but the loved them…..
